Conversational Métis Sash Podcast

Doctoral Thesis

About
   The Podcast

The Conversational Métis Sash is a podcast created in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctorate in Philosophy degree in Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. This podcast is created by Madelaine McCracken, a Red River Métis PhD Candidate, teacher educator, and emerging researcher.

The series brings together thoughtful, conversational contributions from Métis scholars, including Dr. Jennifer Markides, Dr. Lucy Delgado, Dr. Yvonne Poitras Pratt, Dr. Laura Forsythe, and Métis teacher Dana Chaulk, who are all located throughout the North-West Métis Homeland and are citizens of their respective Métis governments.

Each episode offers stories about their lived experiences, pedagogies, and teaching practices as they teach Truth Before Reconciliation and additional First Nations, Inuit, and Métis perspectives, truths, and counter-stories to pre-service teachers in Métis-specific ways.

We invite listeners into stories that centre wahkotowin, relationality, reciprocity, balance, and responsibility, values grounded in Métis worldviews.

Through these educationally rooted conversations, the podcast aims to make research accessible and to weave together truths, counter-stories, reflexivity, and meaningful connections to impact the pedagogy and practices of all who choose to listen.
